THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION DELIVERS

It takes a village to make anything like #TheAlaskaProject successful, and since the summer of 2022, The Home Depot Foundation has partnered with with us for an annual “Home Depot Day”. It’s a day of service, and good old fashioned hard work for all involved!

Team Depot volunteers show up in force at the beginning of the season and right after the spring thaw to transform the property from its winter nap into a welcoming space of beautiful flowers, shrubs, trees, and fresh coats of paint. Their hard work ultimately makes our purpose built retreat not only look amazing, but welcoming to the Gold Star family members, survivors, and veterans that spend time here connecting with the Alaskan wilderness and taking the time to honor and remember those they lost.

Under the leadership of the 2025 Team Depot Captain Matthew Lobdell, some 60+ Home Depot Associates from five different stores (Wasilla-1304, Anchorage 1301-1302-8940, and ALL THE WAY from Kenai-8938!!!) volunteered to brave the cool & rainy day to yet again transform the property and prove the power of service to others.

Alongside our these incredible volunteers, (for the third year in a row) was Aaron Murray and the local Scotts MiracleGro Company. We appreciate their partnership which helps us keep everything fertilized and looking great for the duration of the summer!

Together, this team painted new buildings, installed insulation and vapor barrier in the kitchen, added much-needed mulch to the flowers beds, expanded the landscaping with new flowers and trees, and helped move a literal TON of rocks to protect the new water pump with “rockscaping”. In the end, after one day of hard work they left the property looking AMAZING. We cannot say THANK YOU enough!

We are so grateful for the support of The Home Depot and #TeamDepot, and all the wonderful volunteers that continue to support us. Thank you for helping us serve the families of the Fallen and Veterans in need!
